Motivation
Talking only to people who share the same opinion as we do creates a bubble where we're stuck in our own views. This makes it hard to understand different perspectives, and worsens the division in our already polarised society.
Concept
Cats vs Dogs is a two player discussion game that supports the concept of a free and open discourse, as it encourages its players to share only their opposing opinions and therefore consider different perspectives on a variety of topics. It is designed to foster communication and understanding between players, promoting an open and inclusive environment for discussions.
Background
Cats vs Dogs was created in the course of a Free and Open technologies class at TU Vienna, where digital fabrication methods such as 3D printing, laser cutting and micro controllers where taught. Furthermore this game was created to support the Jugend:info NÖ’s project “Jugendgemeinde 2050”, with offering them not only a game that fosters open communication and an exchange of perspectives for their community meetings, but also the instructions on how to build it.
Tools & Methods:
3D Printing, Laser cutting, Arduino programming, Figma, Play Testing
Collaborators:
Alexandra Hannauer, Benedikt Klinglmayr, Caroline Altrichter & Tobias Ungerböck
Gameplay
During the game the players have to decide between two options that are displayed on the playing cards. These include serious as well as light-hearted topics, which have to be discussed by the players if they disagree. With this variety of topics we tried to keep the game balanced and blur the boundaries of fun and seriousness.
